Mark it down Justin Thomas will be a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup; he got the call a little while back…I’ve actually known this for awhile based on various information…First, he’s not in the field for the Horizon Irish Open like a lot of other top players not playing in the Ryder Cup…Secondly, he is scheduled to play in the Fortinet Championship w/ fellow US players who already qualified for the team…Thirdly, individuals who work for the Ryder Cup know who’s on the team prior to captains releasing their picks so they can make preparations w/ apparel, paperwork, travel arrangements, especially if they’re traveling abroad & a few other small things. So if JT did not know he was already going to be a selection, then he would probably be playing somewhere else (like Europe) in past few weeks since he didn’t make the playoffs…Plus his buddies Jordan, Rickie & Max have been lobbying for him for quite awhile, as have many Golf pundits.
Here’s who will make up the 2023 US Ryder Cup Team:
-
Scottie Scheffler (automatic qualifier)
-
Wyndham Clark (auto)
-
Brian Harman (auto)
-
Patrick Cantlay (auto)
-
Max Homa (auto)
-
Xander Schauffelle (auto)
-
Jordan Spieth
-
Collin Morikawa
-
Rickie Fowler
-
Justin Thomas (some may see this as controversial being he missed the playoffs & the cut in 3 Majors; though he has a really good Ryder Cup record & a great teammate in the locker room; almost like a must have on the team)
-
Cameron Young (based on Fred Couples leaking this weeks ago, though I question taking a rookie who has never won on foreign soil)
-
Brooks Koepka (his girlfriend already leaked it on Instagram & he deserves to make the team, especially since US bases a lot on how players perform in Majors)
Odd men out:
-Keegan Bradley (you could hear his disappointment that was deeper than his wknd play @ Tour Championship during his post rd interview), he is the one I feel most deserves it, but will probably be left off the team)
-Sam Burns (won the Match Play event this year; ran cold for awhile; but had a good finish on Sunday…he’d be another rookie as a captain’s pick, though I’d take him over Young)
-Lucas Glover (caught fire late & is a superb ball striker, but taking a 43 yr old rookie to the Ryder Cup on foreign soil)
